seven principles?

The seven principles are “Dialogue Principles” as defined in ISO 9241-110:

  1. suitability for the task
  2. self-descriptiveness
  3. conformity with user expectations
  4. suitability for learning
  5. controllability
  6. error tolerance
  7. suitability for individualization

since these are so very much often ignored and violated on our dialogues that go on between products or services and end user, i have decided to mumble and document here.

What do i know about the dialogue principle?

i started my research on ISO 9241 and ISO 13407 (now ISO 9241-210) back in 1999 and in 2000 i was trained based on these standards in Germany. It has been the backbone of how i review user experience, usability, user interactions, user interfaces and service design.
